Meet Dr. Candy Akers.
An integrative veterinarian helping pet parents understand practical, thoughtful options for comfort, mobility, nutrition, and whole-animal health.

Healing animals has always been the work.
Dr. Candy Akers is a veterinarian by academic profession and a skilled whole-family healer. She practices integrative medicine by incorporating the best of holistic healing and modern conventional medicine.
She believes in getting to the root of the problem. By addressing the cause of disease, we can help balance and heal the body instead of simply addressing symptoms. This philosophy led her to develop a love for holistic nutrition and whole-food-based supplements. When used correctly, food can help repair the body’s systems and restore wellness.
Her interest in animal healing began in high school, when she was drawn to wildlife rehabilitation. Working in wildlife rehab gave her unparalleled experience in a field with limited resources and a wide variety of conditions.
Before veterinary school, she spent two years working full time in wildlife oil spill response. When an oil spill occurred anywhere in the country, her team traveled to the location. They captured oiled animals, established rehabilitation facilities, provided medical treatment, cleaned the animals, restored their health, and prepared them for release back into the wild.
Dr. Candy completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Delaware and graduated from Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009. Since earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, she has specialized in companion animal nutrition and cold laser therapy. Her extensive education in nutrition has made her a firm believer in species-specific, biologically appropriate diets.
One of her greatest passions is educating pet parents about natural alternatives that actually work. She brings holistic health and conventional medicine together in a unique approach to pet health, particularly for chronic diseases, allergies, and autoimmune conditions.
Look beyond the symptom. Support the whole animal.
Dr. Candy believes the strongest care plans account for nutrition, environment, stress, mobility, medical needs, and the realities of daily life at home.

More time with families. More ways to help.
Dr. Candy’s work has consistently centered on making thoughtful veterinary guidance more personal, understandable, and accessible.
Nine years of mobile veterinary care
For nine years, Dr. Candy operated her own mobile veterinary practice in Colorado, visiting pets in the comfort of their homes. During these appointments, she could spend an hour with pet parents instead of the few minutes often available during a typical clinic schedule.
That extra time made room for deeper conversations about nutrition, environment, chronic disease, stress, daily routines, and the practical realities of following a care plan at home.
Community education
She gave educational talks for schools, pet store employees, feed stores, and pet rescue groups, helping more people understand practical options for animal health.
Accessible preventive care
Dr. Candy and her team built a network of pet stores and animal health facilities that offered low-cost vaccine and vaccine titer clinics to thousands of pets throughout the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains.
Service and recognition
While practicing in Colorado, Dr. Candy received multiple local awards and volunteered with veterinary health organizations including PetAid and 9News PetCheck.
Still teaching, still caring, still surrounded by animals.
Dr. Candy now lives in Woodward, Oklahoma, and serves pet parents online through holistic veterinary consultations and guided healing programs.
When she is not working, she enjoys gardening and spending time with her family. On her days off, you may find her preparing home-cooked food for all of her pets, including dogs, cats, birds, tortoises, snakes, and lizards.
She has dedicated her life to improving the health and happiness of animals and helping pet parents feel more informed, capable, and supported.
Meet Lindsie Parks, CRDFNS.
Lindsie brings more than 20 years of experience across veterinary medicine, animal welfare, rescue, nutrition, practice leadership, and whole-animal care.

A practical, compassionate approach shaped by decades of hands-on care.
Lindsie earned her Bachelor of Science degree in biology and has devoted more than 20 years to veterinary medicine, animal welfare, and whole-animal health. Throughout her career, she has worked in nearly every area of veterinary care, from hands-on patient support to hospital operations and leadership.
For more than 11 years, Lindsie has gained extensive hands-on experience with cold laser therapy and photobiomodulation. She has administered laser treatments for a wide range of injuries and conditions, including IVDD, CCL injuries, ear infections, non-healing wounds, and hip dysplasia.
Working by Dr. Candy’s side has given her a deep understanding of how treatment technique, wavelength, dosing, treatment frequency, and consistency influence a pet’s response. She has also seen firsthand how at-home cold laser therapy gives pet parents a practical way to support comfort, improve mobility, and take an active role in their pet’s care.
Animal rescue and emergency response
Lindsie’s experience extends far beyond the traditional veterinary hospital. She spent six years working in an Oklahoma animal shelter, where she worked tirelessly to give homeless, neglected, injured, and displaced animals a second chance at a healthy and happy life.
She helped improve the health and well-being of thousands of animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, horses, pigs, goats, reptiles, and native wildlife. The work required compassion, creativity, and sound decisions in difficult situations involving medical needs, poor nutrition, injuries, behavioral challenges, and little or no known history.
Lindsie also helped establish a nonprofit pet rescue organization and assisted local emergency response teams following devastating Oklahoma tornadoes. During these emergencies, she cared for frightened, injured, lost, and displaced animals while supporting efforts to reunite pets with their families.
Nutrition, herbal studies, and pet-parent education
Lindsie has continued to expand her education beyond conventional veterinary care. She is completing advanced studies to become a Certified Master Herbalist and has pursued additional education in pet nutrition, whole-food nutritional healing, nutritional supplement protocols, and holistic veterinary medicine. In 2020, she became a Certified Canine Raw Dog Food Nutrition Specialist.
Her background in biology, veterinary medicine, animal rescue, nutrition, herbal studies, practice leadership, and cold laser therapy gives Lindsie an unusually broad understanding of animal health.
At Laser Therapy for Pets, she brings together clinical knowledge, leadership experience, and a lifelong commitment to animals. Whether she is guiding a family through nutrition, developing a holistic care plan, or teaching a pet parent to use cold laser therapy safely and effectively, her goal is the same: thoughtful, individualized care and the best opportunity for every pet to thrive.
Clear guidance starts with listening.
